The Subclass 188 – Business Innovation Stream is for people with business skills who wishes to operate a new or existing business in Australia for up to 5 years.

Once your Expression of Interest is approved the state or territory, you will then be invited to apply for the visa.

No, you do not have to buy a business in advance, or invest any money anywhere before applying for a business visa.
The department will not be able to grant the visa if the nomination is withdrawn by the state or territory.
This is a provisional visa. You can stay in Australia for up to 5 years if you were invited to apply for this visa on or after 1 July 2021.
If you applied after 1 July 2015 and were invited to apply for this visa before 1 July 2021, you can stay in Australia for up to 4 years and 3 months.
If you applied before 1 July 2015, you could stay up to 4 years.
You can travel outside Australia and return as many times as you want while the visa is valid.
The time you spend outside Australia does not extend the visa.
Holders of the Subclass 188 Business and Investment visa can continue living in Australia permanently by applying for a Subclass 888 – Business Innovation stream visa.
