Subclass 651 - eVisitor Visa

This visa enables eligible passport holders to stay in Australia as often as they wish in 12 months. 

Other types of tourist visas include:

  • Subclass 600 - This visa stream allows you to bring family and friends to Australia or undertake business activities for a specified period.
  • Subclass 601 Visa - The Australian ETA (also known as the Subclass 601 Visa) is a temporary electronic permit, allowing eligible and approved passport holders to travel to Australia for tourism purposes.

To be eligible for an Subclass 651 visa, you must: 

  • Have an eligible passport
  • Be a genuine visitor in Australia
  • Meet the health and character requirement
  • Have adequate financials

  • a non-citizen passport, certificate of identity or other travel document

Steps to Obtain a Subclass 651 - eVisitor Visa

Getting the Tourist Visa (subclass 651) is a three-stage process which goes as follows:

    Can I work on a Tourist Visa?

    Tourist visa does not have any work rights.  

    Can I extend my Tourist Visa?

    You cannot a Subclass 651, but can apply for an onshore Subclass 600.       

    Can I travel to Australia without a travel ban?

    You do not need a travel ban to travel to Australia. Unvaccinated visa holders may still need to be in an exempt category or hold an individual travel exemption to enter Australia.

    Tourist visa during COVID times

    CURRENT TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS

    Fully vaccinated Australian citizens, permanent residents and eligible visa holders, including visitor visa holders can travel to and from Australia without needing to apply for a travel exemption. Unvaccinated visa holders will still need to be in an exempt category or hold an individual travel ban exemption to enter Australia. 

    APPLYING FOR A NEW VISITOR VISA

    You can apply for a new Subclass 600 (except in the Frequent Traveller stream) with no fee (VAC waiver) if:

    • you are outside Australia and
    • you hold, or have previously held, a Visitor (subclass 600) visa that:
      • Department granted outside Australia before 21 March 2020;
      • expired, or will expire, between 20 March 2020 and 30 June 2022 ; or
      • your visa was a multiple entry visa or a single entry visa that was not used for travel to Australia

    You must make your new application online through ImmiAccount by 31 December 2022.
