The Permanent Parent visas are divided into two categories, Contributory and Non-Contributory.
Non-Contributory” Parent Visas
“Non-Contributory” visas have a lower Department fee for lodgement and processing, however, has a more extended waiting period (close to 25 – 30 years). These include the following:
“Contributory” Parent Visas
Contributory visas have a higher turnaround time (approximately five years from the lodgement date) but a higher processing fee (close to $48,000). These include the following:
Generally, if you are above 65, you can opt to apply for Contributory Aged Parent Visa. If lodged in Australia, this visa lets the aged parent remain in Australia on a bridging visa while their application is processed (for up to 30 years!). These visas include:

If your parents are under 65, you can apply for a Subclass 173/143 visa.
Subclass 173/143 – Contributory Parent visa allows parents to permanently migrate to Australia if their child is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or eligible NZ citizen.
Subclass 143 application costs $4,225 for the principal applicant and $1,425 for the secondary application at the time of lodgement. Before the visa is granted, each applicant must pay approximately $43,600. This visa takes about 3 to 4.5 years to process and is a permanent visa from approval.
Given the financial commitment of Subclass 143, 143 can be applied directly or split into two applications by initially just using for Subclass 173. Subclass 173 is a temporary visa with an initial application fee of $2,850 and $1,425 for the secondary applicants.
Before the visa is granted, the second instalment of $29,130 must be paid and takes approximately 3 to 3.5 years to process. Before this visa expires, they must pay an additional $19,420 and apply for the permanent visa subclass 143.
