The 2022-23 Migration Program: An Overview

In line with the Federal Budget, the Department has released its 2022-23 Migration Program and intends to boost the Australian economy and promote social cohesion post-COVID-19.

 

Skilled visa allocations have significantly increased from the 2021-22 program year, evidencing Australia’s need for skilled labour.

 

The 2022-23 Migration Program will have 160,000 places as below:

 

  • Skilled Visa – 109,900 places
  • Family Visas – 50,000 places, predominantly allocated to partner visas (approx. 40,500)
  • Special Eligibility – (100 places) – for returning permanent residents etc.

 

Number of Places Allocated for Each Visa Category.

 

  • Skilled Independent Allocations: Increased from 6,500 to 16,652
  • Regional Allocations: Increased from 11,200 to 25,000
  • State/Territory Nominated Allocations: Increased from 11,200 to 20,000
  • Business & Investment Visa Allocations: Decreased from 13,500 to 9,500
  • Global Talent (Independent) Allocations: Decreased from 15,000 to 8,448
  • Distinguished Talent Allocations: Increased from 200 to 300.

 

Additionally, Partner and Child Visas will no longer be subject to a ceiling and will be granted on a demand-driven basis to re-unite families in Australia.
