Visa holders can switch sponsors and have 180 days to do this without violating their visa conditions.
The SID allows visa holders to stay in Australia for up to four years and streamlines the process for employers to fill skill shortages in the business.
The Temporary Skills Shortage Visa is now replaced by the Skills in Demand Visa from 07 December 2024.
Here are some key elements of the Skills in Demand (SID) Visa:
All SID visa applicants can be granted a visa for a period of up to four years.
Visa holders can switch sponsors and have 180 days to do this without violating their visa conditions.
The Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) replaces the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT). This is the same amount of AUD73,150, indexed annually.
The Department has replaced the previous Skilled Occupation List with the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL).
Applicants now require only 1 year of relevant work experience in their nominated occupation or a related field.
This is a significant advantage compared to the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa, which typically required 2 years of work experience in their nominated occupation to be eligible for the visa.
All SID Visa holders will have a clear pathway to permanent residence through Subclass 186 visa.
The Subclass 186 visa pathway will provide SID applicants with:
For individuals with an occupation on the new Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) and a salary at or above the CSIT (currently $73,150).
For highly skilled workers (annual salary of 135,000) in any occupation under ANZSCO Major Groups 1, 2, 4, 5, or 6 (excluding roles classified in Major Groups 3, 7, or 8).
Retains the existing provisions of the TSS visa while the proposed Essential Skills stream is further developed.

The sponsoring company needs to be a standard business sponsor to begin applying for a Subclass 482 visa. Our agents will work with the sponsoring organisation to apply for sponsorship.
STEP 2: Apply for Nomination
Once the sponsoring company has applied for sponsorship, the company needs to submit a nomination application and pay the SAF Levy Fee.
Step 3: Visa Application
Once both sponsorship and nomination have been applied for, our Registered Migration Agents will apply for your Subclass 482 application and liaise with the Department on your behalf. We will ensure that all relevant documents are submitted at the time of lodgement to ensure faster processing of your visa application.
Once you have applied for the visa, we recommend that you undertake your health and medical examination once we instruct you to do so.
STEP 5: Wait for Visa Outcome.
Once all relevant documents are uploaded, we will wait for a visa application outcome and follow up wherever necessary.
To be eligible for the Core Skills Stream, your occupation must be listed on the CSOL, which includes over 450 occupations.
If you are an employer nominating an overseas employee to fill a position in your business under the SID visa, you will be required to pay a Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy as part of the nomination application fee.
